At the Museum and in a Gallery: Asking Questions and Expressing Opinions
This conversation workshop uses iconic works of art displayed in New York’s museums and galleries as starting points for practicing French. Rather than a traditional art history lecture, the course encourages participants to develop the language needed to observe a work of art, describe it accurately, express interpretations, ask questions, and defend their opinions in authentic cultural contexts.
Each session combines close observation, targeted language support, pair and group discussions, brief historical and artistic background provided by the instructor, the reading of authentic or model texts, and communicative activities that reinforce newly acquired vocabulary and structures. Participants do most of the talking throughout the workshop, while art serves as a rich and engaging catalyst for meaningful conversation and language development.
