L’Alliance New York’s Young Audience Program for Schools (YAP) offers K–12 students the unique learning opportunity to immerse themselves in French through the arts. Whether they’re fluent or brand new to the language, they’ll be empowered to listen and converse in French while engaging with creatives of various disciplines who hail from the richly diverse French-speaking world.
Through performances, film screenings, post-show conversations, and workshops, students will discover new ideas and perspectives, have thought-provoking and nuanced discussions, and learn about oft-overlooked history, identities, and contemporary issues. They’ll emerge feeling inspired to share their own original artistic perspectives, and with a greater understanding of their relationships to French-speaking cultures.
The Young Audience Program is free for public and charter school students, affordable for others, and accessible to all levels of French learners and speakers. It’s just one part of L’Alliance’s commitment to creating initiatives that educate and inspire young Francophiles—from its Crossing The Line offerings to its Animation First Festival. L’Alliance also provides educators with detailed study guides, which include helpful information about the Young Audience Program events and suggestions for tie-in activities.
