L’Alliance New York’s Language Center is the largest language school dedicated to teaching the French language in the tri-state area. With more than 6,000 registrations annually, French instruction is offered in two convenient locations: Manhattan’s Upper East Side and Montclair, NJ. L’Alliance New York offers its programs to toddlers (ages 1-4), kids (5-10) and teens (11-17) from beginner to advanced levels, including French for native speakers. Its Preschool has been offering a full-day and half-day French immersion program for toddlers ages 2½ to 5 in two separate classes/classrooms in Manhattan since 2012.
Position Summary
The VP of Education of L’Alliance New York is a dynamic leader responsible for the strategic, operational, and educational oversight of the broad range of its language programs. The VP of Education champions the mission of L’Alliance to promote French language and culture, while fostering a vibrant, inclusive community of learners and parents. This position requires exceptional leadership, operational and financial expertise, and a strong commitment to language acquisition and early childhood education.
Responsibilities
1. Strategic Leadership
· Develop and implement a long-term vision and strategy for the Language Center in alignment with the broader mission of L’Alliance New York.
· Ensure the delivery of high-quality French immersion programs, including preschool and extra-curricular language classes for youth and adults, while maintaining a strong reputation for excellence in teaching French as a foreign language as well as to native speakers (children and teens).
· Identify and pursue opportunities for growth, partnerships, and community engagement to enhance visibility and impact.
· Lead the integration of innovative technologies into the educational program and curricula.
2. Operational Management
· Oversee all Language Center operations, including budgeting, staffing, facilities management, and compliance with state and local regulations.
· Develop and manage the annual budget, ensuring financial sustainability and efficient allocation of resources.
· Supervise staff, including teachers, administrative personnel, and support staff, fostering a positive, growth-driven work environment.
· Oversee the management of 250+ courses, including corporate, private, adult, and children’s programs, ensuring efficient operations and registration processes.
3. Educational Leadership
· Work closely with the pedagogical teams in Manhattan and Montclair, NJ to design, implement, and evaluate curricula that align with best practices in French immersion, language education, and early childhood development; integrate the Alliances Françaises network’s pedagogical methodologies as appropriate.
· Support faculty in integrating technology-driven teaching methodologies and curriculum innovations.
· Maintain and uphold high standards for safety, inclusivity, and student engagement.
4. Marketing and Communications
· Collaborate with the marketing team to develop and execute a comprehensive marketing strategy aimed at increasing enrollment and community awareness.
· Provide input and oversight for the creation of marketing materials, including brochures, newsletters, social media content, and website updates.
· Organize events, open houses, and outreach initiatives to attract new students and expand community engagement.
5. Community and Stakeholder Engagement
· Act as a primary ambassador for the Language Center, work in collaboration with other L’Alliance New York Senior Leadership to ensure a cohesive and mission-driven approach to community engagement.
· Build strong relationships with students, parents, alumni, and community partners to foster engagement and support.
· Organize and participate in events, workshops, and initiatives that promote the mission and activities of L’Alliance New York.
6. Fundraising and Development
· Work with the development team to identify and secure funding opportunities, including grants, donations, and sponsorships.
· Cultivate relationships with donors and stakeholders to support the Language Center’s growth and sustainability.
· Represent L’Alliance New York in developing strategies and support initiatives for the broader Alliances Françaises network in North America.

Qualifications/Requirements

Position Summary
The director of the Manhattan Preschool, a full-time position, is responsible for the pedagogical leadership and day-to-day operations of L’Alliance New York’s preschool in Manhattan, coordinating with the Montclair, NJ Preschool.
Working hours are 8:30am-4:30 pm.
Responsibilities
Main Responsibilities:
The Director is responsible for the pedagogical leadership and day-to-day operations of the Manhattan preschool, currently consisting of two classrooms, including supervising teaching staff, managing substitutions, organizing preschool events, communicating with parents, handling admissions and exmissions, among other duties.
The Director is under the direct supervision of the Vice President of Education and works with the other departments within L’Alliance New York.
Pedagogical Responsibilities:
- Develop and enrich the class offerings based on the French curriculum and educational best practices for early childhood, staying current with the latest methodologies, pedagogical resources and technology.
- Organize and lead teacher training sessions.
- Evaluate and improve teacher performance through classroom observations and coaching.
- Occasionally conduct placement tests.
- Organize and lead weekly meetings with the preschool staff.
- Fine-tune the preschool’s curriculum and evaluations.
- Substitute teach as needed.
Teachers Management:
- Manage a team of four full-time teachers and teachers’ assistants.
- Advise teachers on pedagogy and available pedagogical resources.
- Identify the training needs of the pedagogical team.
- Recruit, onboard, train, and assist new teaching staff.
Administrative tasks:
- Ensure that classes run smoothly (supply orders, snacks, etc).
- Recruit new students/families and organize observation days for the preschool.
- Communicate with parents via email regularly.
- Create the school year calendar.
- Make sure the preschool complies with New York City’s Department of Health and Mental Hygiene’s rules and regulations.
- Coordinate the yearbook with the Marketing Team.
Business Development:
- Communicate program content and updates to parents and answer inquiries.
- Be visible and connect with parents regularly to ensure their satisfaction and re-enrollment.
- Seek out prospective students and ensure enrollment (fairs, open houses… etc).
- Foster a positive relationship among students, parents and instructors.
- Stay current with the class offerings of our competitors for young French learners as well as with their marketing strategies (web content, etc) in order to establish L’Alliance New York as a leader in the field.

Team Overview:
The Finance team at L’Alliance New York is responsible for the management of all financial operations, including but not limited to accounting, budgeting, financial reporting, forecasting, and financial analysis. More specifically we:
- Enter, categorize, and manage day-to-day accounting entries
- Serve as the central point of contact for all AR/AP needs
- Set an annual budget at the beginning of every fiscal year and track against it
- Maintain cost center forecasting files, as well as long-term financial projections
- Deliver financial reporting, following quarterly and annual closes
- Create and maintain key metrics and KPIs
- Author, oversee, and submit industry-required reporting
- Process payroll
Position Overview (What you’ll do):
We are seeking a dynamic Controller who has previously worked at a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, you will lead the day-to-day accounting operations of L’Alliance New York, ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and compliance of our fiscal operations. More specifically, with two direct reports, your responsibilities will include:
- Categorizing daily transactions and reconciling accounts
- Identifying the need for – and processing – journal entries to maintain accurate financial reporting, such as revenue and expense accruals, reclass transactions, and expense capitalization
- Maintaining accurate records throughout the year for the sake of internal and external reporting and compliance, such as board reports, tax filings, and the annual audit.
- Maintaining controls to safeguard the assets of the organization.
- Supervising Accounts Payable/Accounts Receivable
- Supervising the payroll function and related systems, ensuring timely and accurate processing and recording of all employee pay, benefits, taxes, and fees.
- Collaborating in the development and/or enhancement of the organization’s policies and procedures to improve the operational effectiveness of the Finance Team.
- Managing quarterly and annual close-out activities to ensure accurate and timely completion aligned with GAAP.
- Assisting with payroll tax and union filings, as well as government-mandated tax and compliance filings.
Competencies and Skills:
- Exercise a high degree of professionalism, ethics, and self-motivation using personal initiative to identify and recommend best practices

Experience and Education:

- Hands-on involvement with financial analysis / reporting / financial statement preparation and general ledger closing.
- Up-to-date non-profit understanding regarding audit best practices and state and federal law regarding nonprofit operations
- Extensive experience with payroll and accounts payable.
- Strong Excel and computer skills including proficiency in QuickBooks and ADP payroll processing (or comparable) systems.
- Solid experience coordinating audit activities, accounts receivable, and investments tracking.

Hourly Teacher – Montclair Campus

The teacher will plan, implement and assess lessons and will teach with patience and creativity. The Montclair Campus of L’Alliance New York offers language-learning programs for adults, toddlers (ages 2-5), kids (5-11) and teens (11-18) from beginner to advanced levels, including French for native-speakers. Responsibilities
- Teach French classes in person Tuesday through Saturday.
- Teaching hours can be scheduled Tuesday through Friday between 7:30am and 3:30pm, between 9:45am and 5:45pm, or between 1:15pm and 9:15pm, and Saturday between 8:45am and 4:45pm. Teaching schedules can change from session to session.
- Design and follow a complete teaching plan about French language and culture
- Use a variety of activities and instructional methods relevant to the audience to stimulate the learning process and the students’ abilities

- Assess students’ performance and progress to ensure they are mastering the skills on regular basis

Schedules: The position of After-school Assistant is seasonal. 1 and 20 hours worked weekly between 2:30pm and 6:30pm, Monday through Friday (up to 222 days / 888 hours worked annually). The hours worked on a daily basis may vary; a work schedule will be issued on Friday for the following week.
Next Session Dates: Spring 2024 (April 15 – June 20), Summer 2024 (June 24 – August 16), Fall 2024 (September to December, exact dates to be determined).
