I Hate Actors
Je hais les acteurs
Dir. Gérard Krawczyk, 1986, 90 min, DCP.
Playing on the frantic nature of early ’40s Hollywood-spectacle moviemaking—or in this case, French performers standing in as Golden Age Hollywood industry types—I Hate Actors cranks it up a notch by incorporating a good old-fashioned behind-the-scenes murder mystery. The sleuthing begins when the lead actor of a soon-to-be-shot Gone with the Wind–sized production turns up dead … and more bodies begin piling up. Based on Ben Hecht’s 1944 novel, the star-studded farce, which unfolds as a black-and-white fast-talking whodunit representative of the era, celebrates its 40th anniversary with a new restoration that debuted at Cannes this past May.
Restored in 2K from the original picture and sound negatives, carried out by Éclair Cinéma for Gaumont.
