Brésiliens d’Afrique et africains du Brésil
Dir. Yannick Bellon and Pierre Verger, 1974, 164 min, DCP.
Bellon’s three-part television series, broadcast in October 1974, consists of three films exploring the African religions brought to Brazil through the transatlantic slave trade in previous centuries, with Pierre Verger serving as producer and writing the commentary. In 2002, filmmaker Jean Rouch organized a screening at the Ethnographic Film Committee at the Musée de l’Homme, and wrote to Bellon: “People love you very much and appreciate this extraordinary series you made. It remains a major contribution to our understanding of Afro-Brazilian societies.”
