Burnt-out parents Jean-Fi and Sophie (singer Philippe Katerine and Letourneur) escape to Sicily for a few days, trying to reclaim their lives and reignite a spark, but find it’s not so easy to leave your baggage behind. The film is the first part of a planned trilogy paying homage to the trio of Roberto Rossellini/Ingrid Bergman 1950s neorealist melodramas that Jean-Fi brings up on their trip. Letourneur observes, in super-close, sometimes uncomfortable detail, a highly unglorified getaway full of neuroses and awkward humor. It’s a testament to Letourneur’s filmmaking that she could make an unremarkable couple on an unremarkable, though scenic, vacation so compulsively watchable.
