Voyages en Italie

Fred (Jonathan Cohen), husband and manager to happily child-free classical pianist Claire Girard (Marina Foïs), catches the baby bug and devises a plot to impregnate his wife. It, of course, doesn’t go smoothly, but playful gender reversals and absurdist comedy serve to soften some of the tricky morality concerns raised by the film.

A radiant romantic comedy that sees an eccentric young woman (Lolita Chammah) who dreads being alone, left all by herself in the remote countryside. She latches onto a scruffy recluse (Benjamin Biolay), living in a tiny shed with his adorable dog, disrupting both his peaceful routines and her notions of solitude.

In Letourneur’s brand new film, the family from Voyages en Italie return to Italy, but this time Sardinia is the destination and the couple’s young son and Sophie’s preteen daughter from a previous relationship have come along for the ride. Flowing like a real vacation would, the film allows viewers to savor life’s small, ultra-relatable moments.

Letourneur’s semi-autobiographical debut feature provides a spirited peek into the daily activities of a group of twentysomethings as they drink and smoke, hook up and break up, bond and bicker, and hang out at an apartment nicknamed “the ranch” shared by a couple of the girls.

A snappy, self-effacing film following the escapades of three friends—Sophie Letourneur, Carole Le Page, and Camille Genaud, all playing caricatured versions of themselves on the prowl at the Locarno Film Festival, navigating lame parties, exes, new love interests, and, most humiliating, the director’s full-blown obsession with the actor Louis Garrel.
