La Vie au ranch

Letourneur’s semi-autobiographical debut feature provides a spirited peek into the daily hustle and bustle of a group of twentysomething women, as they drink and smoke, hook up and break up with boys, bond and bicker, and hang out at an apartment nicknamed “the ranch” that’s shared by a couple of the girls. Injected with a fast-and-free, youthful energy, the film comes off as so truthful because it stars a cast of nonprofessional actors—close-knit friends in real life—who capture the vitality of early friendships during the pivotal period that feels something like the last hurrah before realizing it’s time to “grow up.”
