Dir. Sophie Letourneur, 2019, 98min
Starring Marina Foïs, Jonathan Cohen
Claire Girard (Marina Foïs) is a renowned classical pianist whose career comes first. Fred (Jonathan Cohen) is her obnoxious husband who controls her schedule and every other detail of their lives. They agree on not wanting kids, but when Fred assists a childbirth aboard a plane, he catches the baby bug… and devises a loathsome plot to get his wife pregnant without her knowledge. It, of course, does not go smoothly, but playful gender reversals and absurdist comedy serve to soften some of the tricky morality concerns raised by the film.
“Enormous marks a clear acceleration in Sophie Letourneur’s filmography, in the territory it sets out to occupy: that of a popular comedy which nonetheless refuses to give up being a laboratory of forms, capable of developing an unprecedented comic framework.” – Cahiers du cinéma
