The most playful entry of the Chabrol-Huppert alliance finds Huppert as one-half of a small-time scammer duo. The terms of her character’s relationship with the older Victor (Michel Serrault) are hazy on a personal level, but professionally, they are a match made in heaven. The two work harmoniously as they steal from unsuspecting businessmen, knowing just how much to take without raising suspicions. But when Betty sets her sights on a larger target (François Cluzet), the partners enter dangerous new territory. In true con-artist fashion, it’s not always clear who’s playing who, but that’s all just part of the fun.
