Rarely do the shiny surfaces of domestic life reflect what goes on underneath. This prototypical Chabrolian tale of bourgeois unrest delves into those darker, hidden details, sparked by a crack in the “perfect family” dynamic. A spirited young aspiring musician (Anna Mouglalis) discovers a strange past connection to a famous pianist (Jacques Dutronc) — a near baby mix-up at the hospital on the day both she and his son were born — and feels compelled to meet the father she might have had. His embrace of her sparks jealousy from his aimless son and, more perilously, his devoted wife (Huppert).
