Tuesday, May 20, 2025
André Téchiné, 2014, France, 116min, DCP
Starring Catherine Deneuve, Guillaume Canet, Adèle Haenel
Based on one of France’s most notorious unsolved murder cases, In the Name of My Daughter centers on the strained relationship between the embattled owner of a casino on the Riviera (Deneuve) and her free-spirited daughter (Adèle Haenel). As the Nice mafia maneuvers to take over the family business, a crooked lawyer (Guillaume Canet) comes between the two women, laying the groundwork for tragedy. Don’t miss this pairing of the grande dame of French cinema with one of its most incandescent young talents, particularly since Haenel has since announced her retirement from acting.
